Nobody likes the prospect of the IRS or the State Department of Revenue rummaging through all of their workpapers and receipts just hoping to find the smallest discrepancy. All it takes it the smallest mistake and BAM, they can nail you. Unfortunately, in the current economic climate we live in both the IRS and State taxing authorities are under increasing pressure to increase revenue, and there is only one place from which that additional revenue can come: TAXPAYERS. If you receive notice in the mail from the IRS or the State Department of Revenue that additional information or documentation is needed or, even worse, a request for an inperson meeting, you cannot afford to ignore the situation. Be absolutely certain you have competent representation to assist you. Or else, you could be helping bring in that additional revenue, regardless of whether you actually owe the additional assessments or not.
